The name of this surprisingly tall variety speaks to its place of origin, as Holland’s Hope was developed by Dutch breeders. The main idea was to make the Afghan indica (naturally small) reach large sizes comparable to large sativa varieties. And the selection proved capable of this miracle, with Holland’s Hope mother plants reaching a height of almost two meters. In other respects, it is a classic indica with an earthy aroma, decorated with woody notes. Some sources attribute Holland’s Hope’s origin to Viking and Skunk #1, which may well be true. If so, the sativa genetics in this fertile and resilient hybrid can be traced back to Colombian and Mexican sativas.
The behavior of Holland Hope’s parent plants really gave hope to the creators of this variety: after all, it is not so easy for a plant originating from hot Afghanistan to bear fruit in the cold climate of the Netherlands, where summers are short. Through selection, the variety was adapted to local conditions with flying colors: even greenhouses were not needed. Immunity to fungi was inherent in the genotype, but during selection, this quality was enhanced to the maximum. The buds resembled corn cobs in shape. In open ground, the mother specimens of Holland Hope fully ripened by early to mid-October.
