From the perspective of someone who knows nothing about cannabis seeds, the only reason for Tangie’s crazy popularity might seem to be its mandarin scent. But no, even in auto format, the genotype is remarkable for its record-breaking performance and rare genetics, which can be seen from the plant’s appearance (easily found in grow reports online). The Californian genotype, which became the basis for the autoflowering strain from Marley Seedbank, occupies an honorable place in the cannabis hall of fame (ten cannabis cups in ten months!).
As for the proposed autoflowering remake, breeders selected a special variety of Colombian sativa to complement the classic terpene profile of Tangie: caryophyllene, pinene, and humulene, plus limonene and myrcene. As a result, the sweet and sour honey aroma has not only been preserved—thanks to the increased concentration of essential resins, the new autoflowering variety smells even sweeter, according to the breeders who worked with it! With a successful combination of Central American landrace genetics and Afghan indica, Auto Tangie stands out among autoflowering strains for its productivity and sticky, heavy buds.
Upon receiving Auto Tangie marijuana seeds, the strain was studied in terms of viability – the results were encouraging! The parent plants grew vigorously during vegetation, producing new pairs of leaves, and with each new pair, the stem became noticeably stronger. The internodes were long, and the shoots were dense and strong, despite their sativa elegance. The tropical origin was evident both in the palette of bright, saturated green shades and in the slender structure of the donor plants.
In grow rooms, greenhouses, conservatories, balconies, and other enclosed spaces, the height of the bushes ranged from 1.1 to 1.3 m (under optimal conditions at the Marley Seedbank laboratory in Jamaica). At the stage of flower bud development, Auto Tangie inflorescences looked slightly lighter than the foliage. As they ripened, the flowers became covered with trichomes—medium in size but lacking the sativa looseness, they were quite dense tops, especially in the case of test specimens from open ground. With reasonable humidity levels, Auto Tangie mother plants showed excellent resistance to mold, probably a legacy of their California Orange ancestor. And the “stinky” Skunk #1 (another distant relative) enhanced the aroma, giving it an almost chemical piquancy.
