The Diesel genetic line has a long history dating back to the early 1990s. This strain was discovered by accident – in the form of 13 seeds in a bag of what was considered sensimilla. After that, it went through a long selection process and, thanks to the efforts of New York breeders, became one of the most popular strains of today.
Its pedigree includes Thai, Colombian, Nepalese, and Afghan landraces. Diesel is one of the best-selling strains in the United States, and it has given rise to many successful strains such as Sour Diesel, NYC Diesel, and Jack Diesel.
Here is an autoflowering remake of the wonderful New York sativa – Auto Diesel, produced by Bulk Seed Bank. To create it, breeders took the original Diesel strain and crossed it with an autoflowering Afghan variety. This accelerated the vegetation and flowering process, while Auto Diesel retained all the advantages of the original strain.
The key characteristic of Auto Diesel is its bright citrus-diesel aroma. The smell is comparable to candied rice crispies and fresh fruits – orange and tangerine. When ground, it smells more like diesel fuel and grapefruit.
Auto Diesel flowers have the perfect combination of different terpenes that excite the receptors. They contain high concentrations of myrcene, limonene, beta-caryophyllene, and pinene. In particular, limonene gives the buds a sharp citrus aroma.
Phenotype and yield of Auto Diesel
Auto Diesel mother plants grew vigorously and coped well with high humidity, powdery mildew, and botrytis. This fast-growing strain with reliable, stable genetics matured in just 60-70 days of flowering indoors. Despite its ability to adapt to virtually any environment, it demonstrated its maximum potential in dry and temperate climates.
This is a fairly large plant by autoflowering standards. Most plants reached a height of 0.75-1.2 m, as is typical for hybrid genetics. During seed production, breeders noted its open and branched structure, reminiscent of the classic Christmas tree shape – a sturdy central stem, a large top and numerous identical side branches, completely covered with fragrant and resinous inflorescences.
The serrated and elongated leaves took on a striking light green color, and the flowers became large and very dense. All plants looked the same, which is why Auto Diesel was so popular with commercial growers—the end result of their work was easily predictable. The flowers were light mint and yellow in color, appearing almost white from a distance due to the high concentration of trichomes.
Breeders note that LST, SOG, and SCRoG techniques allowed them to achieve incredible results. By placing about six plants per square meter, they yielded up to 300-400 g/m². In outdoor conditions, Auto Diesel was ready for harvest in early September.

Can I plant them in July, or is it too late?
You can, but the plant will not grow as large because the light regime will change and the growing season will be shorter.
